Proposal for helping criminals rejoin society could trip up NYC employers

New York City Council is likely to pass some version of a proposed law that would ban employers from asking about a job applicant's criminal background before extending an offer. Part of a national trend, the "Ban the Box" law is designed to help felons re-enter society, and stop the practice of employers automatically disqualifying candidates without considering the details of their circumstances.
