" My daughter asked about a picture in my Army photo album. She said "Mom isn't this the man (@Leavenworth) you said is on death row for murdering his family in Germany?" That was a sad day when James looked at me in shackles brought back to Germany outprocessing! I will NEVER understand how a man who was so much fun and played with my daughter could murder children. " My husband was in Leavenworth from 1969 to 1975 then was transferred to Marion Fed. Prison. He was finally released in 1981. Since then he was arrested in 1986 for possession of 702 lbs. of columbian cocaine worth approx. $70 million. He was incarcerated until 2003. He was out of prison 1 year and 5 mos. He was found in Mexico burned to death (he was in his car) I have no details of what happened - absolutely nothing. He was cremated in Mexico. No autopsy. He lived a dangerous life that started in 1959-larceny, 1962-drug possession, 1969 larceny, and 1986 drug possession. Released and murdered, this is what I think happened. He was no snitch. Had lots of friends in various prisons. I loved him very much and stay married to him for years because he was my soulmate.

Whatever led to his death, I'll never know. He never talked about his life in any of the prisons are jails. I think this was because he didn't want to worry me. I just pray that he's at peace. God bless him. "

" Prison life is what you make it! I spent over 19 years in prison. People always ask me how did I do it. The answer is... I done it one day at a time. I spent my time educating myself. I went to school, took up vocational programs, and read books. I also worked in the prison factories. Is there violence in prison? Sure. Is there gangs in prison? Sure. Prison is a society within a society, meaning that there are consequences for laws broken. I'm not talking about the rules and regulations of the prison. I'm talking about the laws among prisoners. If you indulge yourself in any unhealthy activities, then you must accept every consequence that come your way.

Over the 19+ years I spent in prison I spent some time at one of the racist USP in the country... USP Lee County. It's located in the mountains in Virginia (Jonesville, Virginia to be exact). When I was there the Administration and turnkeys (Officers) was majority White. To make the matter worse... some of the officers had never come into contact with a black person until they came to work at the prison. Trust me I'm not making this up. I heard it from a white officer myself. So therefore, you can imagine how things went there.

There is something seriously wrong when after a brief fight between races (a black man and a white skinhead) and a brief lockdown a white officer makes a statement: "If anyone has a problem with his people, they have a problem with him." However, every prison is different, but one thing is constant and that is the laws that are govern among prisoners. During my time spent in prison I stayed away from the craziness that can consume you if you let it. I done that not because I was scared or soft, I done it because I realized that prison was not the final chapter in my book of life. You see, there are only two ways a person in prison can changed if given the opportunity... and that is for the better or for the worst. It's on each individual on how they choose to end up being. " .I was in USP LEAVENWORTH from 1997- 2004 on B lower in 04 I was sent to USP BEAUMONT until it was shut down after crips & dc went at it . i was in C-A at BEAUMONT. Life is what you make it on the inside as well as the outside. I never had any problems and never heard of anyone being raped. People get killed for reasons. There are no people i saw walking around to find someone to kill just to kill. gambling- drugs-getting drunk and stupid being disrespectful or being just a plain out knuckle head will get you killed. Tell your peeps that are in those violations will get you hemmed up in a bad way.and be cautious of what car you ride on the yard. "

" @ Tilly - I think one thing that people aren't making clear on here is that Ft. Leavenworth was comprised of two facilities - one for the military and one for others. The military side was breezy. Hell, some people were still getting a military paycheck while serving their time depending on their sentence. So don't let the horror stories fool you. There were two distinct facilities for military and other federal prisoners. I digress a bit. That was in the 90's not sure how it's set up now. "

" I went to USP POLLOCK not long after it was opened and I had came from Parchman penitentiary which was no AC and racial violence was a little different. But USP's ARE MUCH NICCER THAN STATE, which they are in Mississippi and Louisiana. I was used to violence but living conditions are better. It was off the chain cause a lot of Boumont people had just got there. "

" My husband is at the Kinross correctional facility and this prison is more of a racist camp and they talk to the black male inmates as though they are slaves. They repeatedly use the word nigger and boy, and try to intimidate and provoke the black inmates. If an inmate tells of the abuse the officers and some majority of the guards try to provoke the inmate into acting out so they can make physical contact. The officers and the guards are now patting my husband down a lot as a form of intimidation and as a means of nit-picking. This truly shows and proves that they can't wait to put their hands on him.

Clearly this is why a lot of these guards and officers like coming to work. To express their racist behavior on the very people/victims that they so desperately HATE. These guards are none to set up deaths and to try to label them as suicides or to have other inmates set up. I was told by the corrections office that the guards are not there to make the inmates comfortable, and yes if the inmates tells a loved one about the abuse then the officers will retaliate.

Now let me just add that I know that the inmates are not there to be lavished and to be made so called comfortable, but they are not there to be abused by the very ones that are suppose to serve, guard and protect. And why would a officer, warden or guard say to an inmate that basically if you tell we are gonna retaliate and make things hard for you and make threats towards the inmate. Looks like the real crooks are working with criminals and trying to cover things up.

I fear for my husbands safety and life at this facility. Mind you he has lost a tremendous amount of weight and this is new to me. What is going on at this facility? This facility is very secluded and is very far and my husband was purposely sent there so that he could receive this abusive treatment. Please INVESTIGATE THIS FACILITY BEFORE ANOTHER INMATE IS MURDERED. If anything happens to my husband, I mean anything in any form it should be looked at as a homicide. On the behalf of the guards and officers. The warden is like a ghost. Where is he? Why is he allowing this?? Is he prejudiced also? "

" Hi, I'm on your side. My son was in Pekin ill he watched a guy die. he knows too much so they transfered him to Victorville medium in California. The FBI came to talk to him about what happened in Pekin then he and his cell mate had to go into protective custody. They tried to put another guy in there cell they said no so 12 guards went in and beat my son bad.

Then they transfered both of them and my son went to Oregon, while the other guy got transfered too. Then Oregon started, my son told him to stop trying to get the guards in trouble or something will happen to him ever since he witness a guy die because the guards would not give him his meds. He's being treated so bad now he's in a USP over all this he doesn't have high points and he's not violent.

We found out they dropped the charges on the guards in pekin knowing they are responsible for the guys' death, so sad the guards get away with whatever they want and no one will believe us, but I will promise you all they will soon. I'll pray for all you in prison because my son is my life. But they don't care, no one does, the government needs all this money but they keep transferring my son about every 6 months.

He's so far away we can't even see him. It's been 5 years since I saw my son in that 5 years he spent his time in the SHU to be transferred, well good luck, all they need better help in all prisons. I feel for all of you "

" I dont have a story to share just some basic questions of fort leavenworth. Someone i know just had his court martial where he was being charged with rape and domestic abuse, assault with a deadly wepon ext., as well as other charges pertaining to child molestation on a 4 yr old boy. They took a plea deal and dropped the child charges to prevent the child from having to testify. But he was charged with the other things he did and sentenced to 19 years at leavenworth.

Of those he will only have to do 10 because of the plea deal, and he will also have to register as a sex offender.

I'm having trouble really finding anything about life at leavenworth. A lot of the blogs i have read on other sites say it is a pretty easy breezy place if you get a job and keep to yourself. But when people find out he is being sent there they say its a horrible place and he's going to be someones bitch, considering his crime and the fact he is only about 23/24.

Im just curious to know what his life will be like there? Any stories or info from the inside or others who may know more about it please let me know. "

" My brother in law is at the Leavenworth farm He says it is a breeze being there -little security -they come and go as they please as long as they don't leave the campus. They have visitors all day on the specified days No pat downs. Dormitories. He got a slap on the wrist compared to the big prison inmates. I guess money talks when you can afford a good lawyer He also got "saved" there and reads his Bible and prays all day long "

" My experience with prison was a real eye opener for me. I never knew in one place there could be so many miserable unhappy people, including guards, staff, and case workers. I have witnessed unprofessionalism of staff towards inmates. I have been in the system for about 11 years now. I have NO criminal record, and I'm 57 yrs old, and unfortunately my mother-in-law did something for her son,(my Husband) and thought nothing of it, but she sent a money order to a guard to buy a bithday cake for her child's b-day. Well there came a kite from someone, and made this mountain out of this mole hill, which I knew nothing about it at all. Turns out they accused me of bringing in drugs from the city where his mother lives, and I was supposed to be bringing them in, and giving them to my husband to give to those in ad-seg.

So they put me under investigation. I had no problem seeing the investigator, because I have nothing to hide and they were not going to ruin my name and my children who are productive citizens and have careers. They both went to college and have professions. I wasn't going to let those people ruin my character nor my families character.

I was cleared from all the false accusations eventually. And yet they still have my husband in ad-seg 2008-2010. The staff want the inmates to tell the truth and yet the staff makes up most of the lies themselves. Right now they are trying to get under my husbands skin by saying that I'm a guard's lover. What makes these people be allowed to get away what ever they want to say about a person on the outside?

Female guards mess around with inmates, and the male guards mess around with female staff. I'm damn tired of staff thinking they can get away with what ever they want. I have always respected all the staff. They treat the families like they are nothing or that we should be locked in with our loved ones.

Most of the staff are mostly uneducated, or might have a GED. Does that make them bad people? I would love to see a guard stay locked up in a cell for about a week or a month. They DON'T have the strength mentally. Let the inmate say the things that the guards say to them on a every day basis. "

" To Spellbound, I am an ex-correctional officer and I can tell you that inmates know exactly what to say. They are masters at manipulation. Do you actually KNOW everything about him? My advice would be to run but I know that is easier said than done. I am not saying run because he is an inmate becuase I worked at a place where 90% of the inmates were really good people and were victims of drugs, alcohol, or worse.

I'm also not saying what any of them did was right either but you have to use your head. If he has been in prison for many years, he will be lost when he gets out and chances are, he may not want you anymore. I'm not saying this to be harsh, but factual. I could be completely wrong and he may come out and never get in trouble again. That would be wonderful! Do you have kids? Would he also be part of anyone else in your family? You have to consider all of the possibilities. As a woman myself, I have learned to listen to my gut feelings and I truly believe in that. What does your gut say? Listen to your feelings. My belief is that you are doubting yourself; otherwise you would not be asking for advice. "

Fed inmate 041

" I was in Leavenworth from 1998 to 2005 and went back for 10 months last year. The only other fed joint I have been to is the new USP at Terre Haute. That place is pretty rough but is much nicer looking and more comfortable than Leavenworth.

Now that Leavenworth is a medium there are more short timers there and a lot less violence but it is still a pretty tense place. The guards, caseworkers and counselors generally don't give a shit about inmates or their issues; that may be the case in any prison but it seems more so in Leavenworth.

Some of the other posters on here have said it is a dangerous place for rats & sex offenders; that is the truth. People with those issues have a high probability of being hurt very badly in that place. If you are going there you need to find your homeboys and have them help you get into a cell with someone decent and show you where you can sit in the chow hall. If you are a rat or a Sex offender the best thing I can tell you is to check in as soon as you get to R&D, they will do a SIS interview and ask you if you are OK to go into population, you need to tell them right then and there that you need to check in. If you are a good person by inmate standards and you know how to do your time Leavenworth is not a bad place but you should try to go somewhere else if you can. "

" I did 16 months in WA for vehicular homicide at age 20. Every person being given to custody to the state of WA has to go through the R Units in Shelton. Due to overcrowding my first two nights there were spent sleeping on the floor of a 2 man cell that the state very easily made 3 man by putting four 90 degree paint-marks on the floor just big enough to align the corners of my matress and "the rug", or in this case me.

Probably 80 other inmates had to sleep right in the middle of the floor. Also the average time for being in the R Units is four to six weeks. I spent thirteen weeks and believe me there were plenty of people that got there before me and I left before them. But before I could leave I had to tell my counselor how and how not to do his job correctly. He actually got on the phone with his superior to ask the same questions I was asking him.

I learned that the criteria for becoming a correctional officer is having your G.E.D. and being 7 years felony free. So it's not like anyone who wants to is eligible to being a c.o. but damn near almost. So when an idiot redneck who probably got his GED in prison 8 years ago is a correctional officer in your unit, it doesn't help the inmate population respect the officers one bit.

Man I could go on and on but basically if you're getting ready to do some time usually the best idea is to click with your race. The worst idea is reaching over someone else's tray - BIG NO NO. Basically don't go into prison acting all bad like you mean something cause you mean nothing to any racial gang, especially if you click outside your race like me. I'm white and clicked with the Native Circle so now Skinheads hate me, which is fine by me but maybe not everyone thinks the same. Last but not least always try to keep a little money on your books cause a bag of rootbeer barrels on commisary day is like opening presents on christmas morning.

I hope this little trip down memory lane for me has provided some pretty good insight for you. Thanks for listening. "

" Please post your prison story here.I have spent time at U.S.P Leavenworth in 2007 and I agree it should be condemned or turned into a museum. It is the oldiest Federal Prison in the U.S. and it sure does show it. Birdman of Alcatraz and Pretty Boy Floyd and Bugsy Seigal and Silverstein all did hard time there. The conditions were rough then.

My cellie did 35 years there. He arrived there in the 70's and he is still there. The yard is rough and it is 0 tolerance for rats and child molesters and pedafiles. When I arrived they slit this guys throat from ear to ear after he was only on the yard 45 minutes.

They don't play around and they are determined to keep Leavenworth's reputation in tack after all these years. One of my cellies at FCI EL Reno in Oklahoma did time there in 1969 and he said they use to burn people to death in there cell's or throw them off the 5 run. "

" I met a guy in prison through a friend. He just wanted someone to write. I figured I could help him out, seeing that I like to write and read. It's been a year and we share everything. I have fallen in love with him but I,m scared. He went to jail at the age of 20. He is 38 now and because we connected right from the jump I don't want to turn my back on him although he is prepared for me to walk away. My concern is that I keep wondering is this really healthy for me and him as well. I have heard all the stories one can say about an inmate and I'm sure you know my fears. I am a good woman, I can have any man I want but through a journey of words he has won me over. Some things I don't understand but I'm scared to ask. First, when we have our private moments on the phone or in writing he wants to go to an area that I never tried. I don't have a problem with that but my mind keep asking, I'f you got locked up at 20, how could you have that experince at a tender age? Secondly, he gets his hair braided. I don't like that at all! I just don't see it or get it. Am I blowing this for us? If I ask him I think he may tell me what I want to hear so I'm asking you guys on the real whats up? He is getting out in awhile and I need to find out what he is really into... "

" I was in usp leavenworth from june 2003 until november of 2008. I stayed after it switched from a usp to fci. It is a shitty place where the guards treat inmates bad and there families even more so and there is nothing you can do about it except flip out,get your ass kicked and end up in the shu. My wife traveld from michigan to visit me and they only let us visit for 3 hours the first day and wouldnot let her in the next because of there stupid lying drug machine. " I am a 37 year old white male who started going to jail at 15 years old. I have been to a few state prisons and 6 federal institutions. I'm not a big man. 5'10" 175lbs, and I've never been affiliated with any of that gang shit. In all my years in various prisons I have never seen a man get involved in homosexual activity that didn't want to. Prison is nothing like it's portrayed on television but it can be a very lonely cold place. If you have a loved one doing time, write often, visit if possible and send money if able (money helps make things a bit more easy). Don't believe some of the bullshit some of these guys are posting on here....some of them probably never did a day. "

" My son is in Deerfield Correctional Facility in Ionia, Michigan. He has had an inmate extort money from him and now there seems to be an officer who runs the store trying to extort money from my son. I have tried to find out if there was an Extortion Officer at the prison and if they have Protective Custody. The lutinent who answered the phone said they had neither at that facility.

I asked what they do when someone needs protection and/or is being extorted for money, and he said that he would talk to the individuals and find out what is happening. Never said exactly what he would do. Also, he said that he would never want an employee there if the employee was extorting money from an inmate.

I did not feel too relieved when I hung up the phone. I am more so concerned since there seems to be no way for my son to get protection once e lets someone know what is going on. That frightens me more than you could know. "

" I was in leavenworth usp from 2005-2008. I have read some of the posting that people have posted I thought I would lend some of my own experience of being in that place to the families who have loved ones going there. First of all, it is very scary when you walk into that place. The best thing for one to do is just stay in your room until their ethnicity comes up to meet them. If you are going into leavenworth and you have told (snitched) on someone then your best bet would be to check in and ask a gaurd to take you to the SHU. They will beat your loved one to death or near death. If you did not tell on anyone then you're OK. I would let your loved one know to find a job there. I worked in the kitchen the whole time I was there. After you been there a while it becomes less scary, but you still have to carry yourself upright. "

" I just want to say thanks to fed cure for all their support on trying to bring back parole. My husband is in Leavenworth. It's a six-hour drive, and you never know if your going to get in to visit or not. All you can do is hope and pray that you get called up. The worst part is in the winter, when you have to sit outside for hours waiting to get in. They have no respect for the visitors and as far as the dress code I found it easier to simply wear jeans and a t-shirt. "

" Bottom line is you're going to be sucking **** or getting plugged in the seat, unless you fight. Anytime someone tries to punk you, you fight, unless he happens to be a gang member. In that case you need permission from the leader of his set to fight him. Otherwise you'll get yourself in to a lot more trouble than you ever bargained for. It's all prison politics. Everybody has to answer to someone else higher ranking than them and all the head gang members, the leaders, are in the S.H.U., the Secured Housing Unit. That's where the shot-callers are, who use the foot soldiers on the main line, AKA General Population, to do their bidding. How do they get this information from the s.h.u. to the main line kites (also known as "letters" or "notes," hit lists, who owes who, who needs to get stabbed, who needs to be extorted etc).

At least you know how stuff works, but chances are you're what we call a vic, short for victim. You're still probably going to get your cherry popped POP!!!!!

But don't ever tell a C.O., or you're as good as dead. Good luck buddy, really I mean it. I have done a lot of time everywhere, so I know what time it is. You'll learn slow, but for you it's going to be painful. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm trying to prepare you. Lots of luck because you're going to need it. "

" If you are going to prison, lift some weights and get toughened up as much as you can. Practice three good punches with each hand over and over, practice three good kicks with each leg as much as you can over and over. If anyone takes something of your's, punch him as hard as you can right out and don't let up till they stop you. You have to make a good first impression, the impression that you will fight with all you got is the one to make. Poke them in the eye, if you are small. Work on developing a good head-butt. Many a giant has been felled by a good head-butt. "

A( STRETCH )OF THE IMAGINATION

Tangled up in four walls of eternity
No freedom to share my wifes maternity
twisting and turning as if by wrench
my emotions
chained and chackled by four walls of
eternity
my mind is free to wander the halls
to wander the halls of imagination
I can do this stretch
to serve out my time
tangled up in four walls of eternity
wandeing the halls of imagination
met with the board today
gave me a longer stretch had to stay
chained and chackled to four walls
of eternity
but free to wander the halls

" Mike, I just wanted you to know that I am praying for you. It just dawned on me that in 2 days you will be turning yourself in. My husband is currently serving time in USP Coleman II in Florida and from what I gather things are pretty rough. He will be home in 18 months but it is not soon enough. The biggest thing he had to learn really fast is to not show any fear or weakness or you will be considered a "punk", I cannot imagine what you must be going through. Trust in the Lord and HE will take care of you. God Bless you Mike. "

" 25th hour adventurer you are probably right about the rape thing. But here are a few things you can do to prevent it.

1. Start working out daily. 2. Join a group. One that will protect you. 3. If you notice someone trying to target you try to seek help. But DON"T SNITCH. Being a snitch will get you killed. Just ask for a transfer. 4. Also, have your attorney point out that fact that you are high on the agressor's list for victimization. They may also depart from regular guidelines on sentencing.

5. Show no fear. If you show fear you are definately setting yourself up for failure!

I will pray for you. May God bless you and keep you pure! Good luck. famousgirlcrmn@aol.com "

" Im a founding father of the TRINITARIO ORG. The only reason Im writing this is that Ive read so many stories in these pages that make me sick to my stomach... FIRST of all the T-3 is not a criminal org. like so many would like to brand us . And that so called CABALLON is not even a member of our group. The one you should mention in your articles is my brother JULIO MARINE A.K.A CABALLO. He is also a founding father. We started cause of the abuse most of our country men had to endure at the hands of Puerto Ricans and Blacks such as the LATIN KINGS and BLOODS and CRIPS in the New York prison syatem. We are proud of what we are and donot hide it. Did you know that 35% of the latino corrections officers are Latin KInGS and help the inmates by Bringing in drugs and weapons to them? MY name is BIG DOG or my real name is FRANCISCO MACHADO> I was deported from the US after serving time but I still hold my head up and Im proud to say Im TRINITARIO 100% AMOR A LA PATRIA"""""" "

" My very own prison story has not yet begun. Although it may start as early as 11/11/07 for the next 7 to 10 years, a former client and ex-girlfriend of mine who onced worked at a state prison as a nurse, told me very pointedly, being that I'am 19 years old, 5'-4" tall, 145 lbs.,and white there's a high possibility of me getting raped! Since I may be sent to a medium security facility at Lansing KS., just how much of my ex-gal pal's little Halloween tale is true? Does any one out there know?, anything about the Lansing prison, should I be concerned??? "

" I visit my husband once a month. The drive is 5 hrs one way and you can only visit one day on the weekend so I normally take a day of vacation in order to visit 2 days. It's always so great to see him it's all we look forward to each month. You see my life is also on hold people say to go on but you dont when you truley love someone and believe in them. He is doing 17.5 years after being rehibilitated for 3 years before all this happened. This is what they call the war on drugs. People just don't understand until something like this happens then you can truly appreciate life and all those little meaningful things each day that we take for granted. Like looking over at your husband first thing in the morning and watching him sleep. Would I would give for that. Please go www.fedcure.org and urge your representitives to reinstate Federal Parole. It's the only way we will get our loved ones home sooner. "

" Does anyone have any information on the riot that took place at leavenworth usp on june 16 2007? My son is there and we have not had any word from him since. The staff tells me they are in complete lockdown and he knows nothing else. I checked the local paper and channel 5 news in kansas city and there has been not one bit of information, not even a mention of it. I'm very worried as his father went on the 18th to visit for our son's birthday, was told no visitation, that there had been a riot and that shots were fired, but that's all he could find out. if anyone knows anything, please let me know.

thanks. "

" I am a frequent visitor to USP Leavenworth and find the conditions getting worse with every visit. The staff is extremely abusive to visitors. I have also found that the dress codes seems to change from visit to visit. What was ok last month is not ok this month...depending on who is working that day. "
