Sugar Bear

i was in brandon jail for a month, and tyhe gaurds were good to me there.but in echo there are inmates that will use you if you are weak enough to give in,both sexually and for filling there plates at your expense if they can.that was common for nervous newbies like me. one day to entertain themselves they choked me to the point that i died but they resuscitated me. i never told this to anyone till i was out. the food was good, but felt like small portions and i guess the others felt it too.

I was then transferred to headingley's atc unit for sex offenders. the food there was very poor quality to the point that it was not uncommon to have moldy bread and fruits that were rotting.but you got large portions there.there was schoolin there when i first got there but it was removed due to budget cuts along with lack of commitments from inmates. In A.T.C. i must say that the guards were nice to you if you were nice to them. You be a prick they would be one too. yet you could always tell when a gaurd came in from a different unit because there attitudes were alot more harsh as they were expecting us to be. but generaly they were there to help you change your ways and help change the ways we deal with our problems. there were jobs available that paid $2.20 -$4.00 a day although a chocolate bar cost $1.50,soap bars about $2.50,shampoo was $4.50 i think.there the guards kept all of the inmates in check as well as each other with attitudes.there you could add a week to your sentence just by cussing at a gaurd or having a loud and obnoxous disagreement with another inmate.

it was an experiance that i am thankfull i have had, but yet never want to go back to again.

    Hi Sugar Bear,

I recently have a close friend of mine that was sentenced to 2 years in the HCC A.T.C unit. I found out 2 days ago by my friend's brother who couldn't contact me until late in the evening. I wanted to know if inmates in that unit are able to receive mail from the United States? Or even phone calls from the United States? This friend of mine is very kind and is smart, he can be a smart alec if he wanted to but he would also do anything to survive. As you can probably tell I am terrified, have never had anyone in my life been sentenced to anything at all. Let me know if you get a chance to answer my questions.

soldier

stp locolz have no experience in making money for their people. as of Soldiers, we look after each other. soldiers rule the community of st. Theresa point. Brothers from all over Manitoba can identify an enemy and who is recruited. Soldiers can be affiliated with garden hill renegadez and the Manitoba warriors. although renegades have less qualities of brotherhood. In St. Theresa point, every where you go there is a soldier. locolz help soldiers in some way. there is some respect going on. as if there is one rival beating. there will be a war. it is pretty violent.

the babysitter, first off, if they are to admit it who will listen? as we all know nobody listens to what natives have to say its just another form of the governments ideas. but also it happens in the us with the colour ppl. face it, its true and i do know that gaurds put up with alot but again its there CHOICE to take the job just like u said its there choice to not commit a crime.

they should not have game systems no, computers only for learning... you CAN NOT treat them like DOGS because when they get out they will be ANIMALS....pc. out talkin from experience from both ends of the system. michelle

"oh yeah, and for the mothers out there...worried about your sons...not ALL guards are assholes, there are plenty who do try to help inmates make a change but if your son is smart ass, or not respectful i can assure you he will be treated the same way from staff."

"To all you people talking about all the bad things happening in jails, let me tell you...The Headingly Hotel is far better than what your son/father/nephews or whomever they are tell you. First off, they get computers, books, PS2 and loads of games to choose from. They can get 5$/ week in welfare for canteen. They get free toiletries, if they want...and of course they get all their meals for free too...WHO pays for this? TAX PAYERS...on average a male inmate is something like 75k/year to house in a jail. Why the fuck would you feel sorry for these people who are in jail, and probably in a safer place than they would be if they were raping women, robbing innocent people, selling crack to kids, or, let me guess, they ARE ALL INNOCENT, RIGHT?

The guards have to listen to these puss nuts threats, and attempts at intimidation day-in and day-out and you expect them to treat everyone kindly. THIS ISN'T a day camp...IT'S JAIL. You don't go to jail for being a good guy. You go to jail because you've done something wrong. I full well realize sometimes people get mixed up with the wrong people and they can get into trouble...but if you ve been to jail multiple times that excuse no long holds any weight...YOU make BAD choices and are no longer worthy of your freedom. Inmate should have thought about his kids, wife, parents and the effect it has on them BEFORE commitiing a crime.

MICHELLE: if Natives want the cycle broken the first step is admitting there is a problem. Natives are proud to be in jail, gives them status in jail and on the streets. Don't blame the Government for this one. Every single person chooses which path they go down, regardless of where they came from and what they have experienced in life. Take a look inside your own teepee before passing blame on the system for your peoples problems.

JACK BENDER. I highly doubt you scared the shit out of the guards and I doubt you beat up everyone you could for looking at you...and you're a piece of shit just for saying that. Guards woulda smacked you around and made you cry like a little bitch. And they probably did. You wouldn't be on here bragging about how tough you were, otherwise."

how are we to break the cycle when the government breaks agreements and pushes us under the table? granted it is the inmate's choice to do something wrong but just because they've made mistakes does not mean we treat them less than human. as for the guards, yes, they put up with a lot but like I've said, they choose their profession. sometimes we don't choose to go to jail, it happens
