Hey I just got out from doing three years here and though I've witnessed violence it is what you make it. It is still group showering and each block holds up too 600 people. I did my time on D block with lifers and those doing big numbers. It's a sad situation in there and despite many preconceived beliefs there are some good men in there. I pray for all those brothers and their families.

It changed my life. Graterford woke me the hell up. I am from near Pittsburgh, was shipped to Graterford after Camp Hell... A few years there changes one's life forever.. FX8844...if you have people in there, they will right themselves. God Bless u all.
"Hello. After reading some of these stories I can officially say I'm am really scared for my Fiance. I have never known him to be a punk in any way and I have NEVER known him to be attracted to any male in ANY way. With that said, I feel like that makes him even more of a target. I'll explain. He is 6 foot 4, close to 200 lbs, and NOT a punk and NOT a homosexual so it would seem more likely for him to become a potential target of either some type of assault crime or sexual related crime because someone in there might try and be the one to make a name for themselves by breaking in the Diesel ass heterosexual who is BRAND NEW to Graterford.
This worries the hell out of me. It does ease the worry to some degree to know that my man WILL NOT hesitate to catch an additional case protecting himself by all means possible, but still I do worry. He just got there last week from Delaware County Prison (George W. Hill). I haven t heard from him, I don t know how long the intake process takes before I can see him or add money to his books or anything. Will someone out there PLEASE enlighten me? I did receive a box yesterday and inside were his shirt, boots, pants and two Rosaries. I'm guessing they were what he was wearing when he got there.
The judge sentenced him to a 12-24 years, and he's already served 4 months in Delaware County, but how long will he have to be in Graterford before he will be moved to his permanent jail/prison to finish his sentence? If anyone knows ANY of these answers PLEASE email me ASAP. Also if there is anyone who drives there out of Philly (West) please let me know and we can discuss cost etc... Thanks!"

My boyfriend is locked up at Graterford. He invited me to a dinner that he says is held for the inmates and a guest. Has anyone ever been to one? He said its held in their gym. I m very nervous and I do not know what to expect. I also am not sure if the dress code is the same as when you go on a regular visit. If anyone can help me out with some info I would be so thankfull. Thanks in advance.
"My husband is doing time in Graterford. He was released in 2006, after six years, but got a parole violation after five years for drinking. They have him back there doing almost a year. The worst part about seeing him is dealing with the CO s. I have never met more ignorant women in my life. They have such a horrible attitude and try to make the whole experience as unpleasant as possible. I guess when you give some people a little bit of power for the first time in their lives, they don t know how to act. Especially considering all you need to work there is a GED and they re probably living in the slums in Philly with a bunch of kids to a bunch of different men...I guess they have to take that frustration out on somebody. "
i did 5 years in graterford.. that jail s easy if u have money.. I had money.. bought lot favors.. did whatever I want and got whatever.

My name is john AKA popeye. I served an 18 year prison sentence. I started with 8 years for armed robbery and got another ten while i was in jail . Ii had 110 prison moves and 33 jails and all so a csc prisoner, which led me to do 5 years and 8 months in the seg away from everybody. This was something that took something away inside of me and I'm still trying to get my life back together even though I'm free now.
I believe that I'm not free cos all the fights and protests took their toll on me like a boxer. You only have so many good fights in you and its true, look at tyson. He has not won a fight since he got out of jail. It can go either way for you, good or bad. All i know is my life never been the same. have i learned my lesson? eh no. Have i paid the price to the public? yes, three times over if the public saw how i was treated or lived they would of let me out after a week. Where does that leave me now? A mess, to say the least, a product of the prison system.

Just wanted to tell you that you can overcome the mess and recover your self to be a different product of the prison life you've left behind. Keep your head up and stay strong!
