I have been in remand 3 times for unpaid fines...I think it is absoulutly retarded to put some body behind a locked door for hrs on end for a stupid no pay on a train.. GIVE YOUR HEADS A SHAKE CALGARY POLICE ETC,... last I checked prison was for convicts not for a simple unpaid c train fine.. it costs more to keep a person in reamand for a c train fine then ever..all there is to do i find is sleep...time gose bye so much quicker...and why cant you even provide inmates with a pit stick...its not like the goverment dosent have enough money to provide inmates with a simple nessesity of life...any ways the longest i spent in there was 7 days it sucked , but hey ,,,like one guard at the holding cells told me.. YOU PAY OR STAY....DONT GO IN THERE BROKE...LOL..

I went to CRC and it was my first time ever being in remand or jail ever and I was treated as if I should know the way that it is in there and when I told them that I hadn't ever been in before they treated me like I was playing stupid and they treated me worse then most of the other inmates there!!! I really think that that place is the clichiest place that I have ever been!! Especially the female unit where I was and now my fiance is in the health care unit and I honestly think that that whole place is a fucking joke!!
I understand that you are there awaiting court, trial or sentencing but they treat you as if you are guilty no matter what!! I had all my charges dropped and spent almost two months in!!! My fiance is in there has been for 6-8 months now and they miss taking him to his doctors appointments and his physical therapy which is bullshit as he needs it for his extensive health issues that he is dealing with!!

Sounds to me, after reading these comments, that the Calgary Remand Centre is doing their job. If you don't like the CRC...then don't be doing stuff that leads you there. You do that YOURSELF. If your conduct is subhuman...so should your treatment be.

CRC is a copout center. They treat you like dogs to make to plead out. **** those goof pigs. Unit 1 and 2 are the shit. Always oil slicks in that place. Decent time in there. It was pretty quiet on 1 last time I went. The boys inside are always solid. Stay up jt and tr. See you in feb, niggas.

I am writing a letter to the federal government. I have been to CRC twice. The staff treat you like animals. Remand is a place where you go before you are convicted. Needless to say, if you are in remand, you are still innocent until proven guilty. Not in CRC. In CRC you are guilty until proven innocent. You are belittled, and battered by staff. You are stuck in conditions that the SPCA wouldn't allow animals to be placed in.
There is plenty of cigarettes and drugs, IF you know the right staff member.
A lot of the staff are on the take if the price is right. This goes for LCC Lethbridge correctional as well. The provincial government closes their eyes to it. So I am going federal, and most likely to the media.
No, criminals shouldn't be treated amazing. But they are still human and deserve to be treated as such.

Man I've been to CYOC three times for my assault charges and it's funny to hear stories about how bad it is in there. Like how you can get jumped and shit. I find that funny because those people only bring it on themselves and if you can't defend yourself then you are a pussy bitch and obviously jail isnt a place for you.
I ran that shit when i was there. I didn't let anyone fuck my shit up, and it was always the other way around. The food there is shit btw.

Calgary remand sucked. I was in unit 2 for 3 months for trafficking and possession of a firearm. I have since been released on bail. Most shitty part about it is the lockup hours. You get 2 and a half hours free time on your best day and I think 1 and a half on your worst.
The food is totally shit. The guards are better than the ones in Edmonton but they're all a bunch of goofs anyways. Always looking down on you when they don't even know you. The phones are always taken, you literally have to fight for your turn on the phone.
And not much time anyways considering your locked up for 22-23 hours a day. But the guys in there are pretty solid, I guess. If any of the boys are reading this keep your head up and head to the penn, man. Remands in Canada are shit!!!

I was in Calgary Remand for a year. The food sucked and a hundred a week was barely enough this was what I was doing a 2 for 1 thing most of the time. I was in when we were allowed to buy patches as no more tobacco. I did pretty good with the 2 for 1 thing with them but keeping them hidden when searches were done each week really sucked.
I swear most of the guards were queer as with the search all us inmates had to do a strip search down at A & D and was like the guards enjoyed looking at all of us. I made a few good friends inside but never did keep up with them as I went to the Pen for a few years afterwards. I would have contacted them but prisoners are not allowed to write to each other which I think is bullshit.
Locked up in your cell pretty well 22 hours a day a prisoner is better off in the pen as you're not locked up like a dog as you are in the remands. I got transferred to Med-Hat a couple times and even there it was a little better, since you were not locked up as long as Calgary.
Guards in Calgary seem to know when things are going to erupt well before hand, in most situations like fights, but they seem to enjoy watching inmates kick the shit out of each other. It's their entertainment along with a bit of realization for inmates to be well aware, what the hell is going on around them.
I was almost got released but when I spoke up that the clothes they were giving me at A & D were not mine they realized they had the wrong inmate as we both had the same last name. If I would have said nothing and got out Remand would not have taken the shit for this as a warrant would have been issued for me saying I escaped even though they would have let me out. lol.
It's been a few years since in Remand in Cgry but when I was going to the pen I stopped in Edmonton Remand for a day and this was a lot worse than Calgary. I would actually pay to stay in Calgary remand rather than Edmonton. The facilities there are not even meant for animals.

It did suck but it wasnt THAT bad, it was boring as hell, but me and my cell mate became friends on the outside. Just dont go to unit 1 or unit 2/

Yo, I was up in CRC and it does suck. People withdrawing from crack or whatever hard drug they use, people are loud all night, the meat (beef, chicken) is not cooked right, so they are pretty much handing out mad cow and salmonella.
Their sandwiches suck. Yes, you fight over the phones. They say they are trying to stop violence, but putting all the inmates together is just one big brawl set to go off any minute. The guards are rude to you, especially if you are native. If you were to ask for something in a nice manner you get shut down just like that. But I say fuck the cops. I did whatever I wanted because the punk police ain't got shyt on me. They think they know it all, but they don't.

I went to the Calgary Young Offenders Center and that sucked, man. They were giving us powdered milk and stuff. Tt was bad. They make you run lap after lap after lap until you puke and when you do puke they still make you run.
I was so sick of it. I got pepper-sprayed like 5 times for fights that broke out because I'm the new kid and everyone just steals my food. I got tired of it, so I just fought everyone who tried taking my stuff. Don't go to CYOC.

My husband has been in the Calgary Remand Center for the past 3 months. He is not enjoying the time there at all... he would rather be in the pen. They keep him locked up for most of the day, and let him out about 2-3 times a day for maybe a max of 15 min, 30 min, or 1 hour (depending on the unit).
Prices are shocking, he cannot eat beef or pork due to our religion so my husband needs to buy food from the canteen... i end up paying almost 100.00 per week just for his expenses. Phone times are terrible, it costs 1.50 per min to anywhere outside of calgary, ex. toronto and back home PK.. Everything needs to be bought including shaving rasors... Conditions are brutal... he is so upset as he has to eat and go to the bathroom in the same room... INFRONT OF HIS CELL MATE... its very uncomfortable... atleast they should let them out and allow them to have their meals in a dining area 3 times a day because all meal times he is locked up...
everyone has to fight for the phone when its break time... he told me that people stab others with a pencil/pen as they dont have knifes... just for a phone! There are appearantly 750 inmates (according to a staff memeber)... how are the staff supposed to keep up with that many people when the institution was made for only 700? the staff is soo irritated....
we are all in a bad position now... but as soon as my husband is out on bail or moved to pen, the staff of the Calgary Remand Center will get a peice of my mind!!!! They cant treat us all like dogs... we dont deserve it... we are innocent people who are going to visit our loved ones... we shouldnt have to deal with their attitudes!

My human rights were violated on a regular basis. Was assulted several times -by inmates and gaurds. Assulted by a certain gaurd last name M******. Denied medical attention frequently. Denied medical attention when having an appearant heart attack. Denied phone calls and visits. Not given enough to eat. Gaurds intentionally placed me in harms way.

I spent time in Calgary Remand in July 2005 until I got transferred to Lethbridge Correctional in September of 2005. What a wakeup call that place was. I was scared to death but all in all , I was treated O.K.

Calgary Remand sucks. I have been there and they make you wear the same thing for a week. My nephew just left there and, well, he was treated so poorly that he made a complaint with corrections canada ...remand in Calgary sucks for females and males alike.

shitty place to be. food sux and is very small. its very cold in there and withdrawing from heroin or morphine is the worst. they dont give two shits how bad you feel, days alternate from 23 hours one day lock up and the next 22 hours lock up very depressing place. Going to court really sucks - they wake you up at 4:30 am and you spend all day at court holding-cells and dont get back to your unit til about 9pm at night most times.
