Because of a mentally-ill spouse and my refusal to rat her assaults out to the cops of 55 div., those bastards locked me up on phony charges or bail violations on those phony charges, I think 7 times, for up to 4 months at the longest. I had to fight a couple of times with loon inmates, something I didn't want to do. However, you aren't given much choice when you're locked 3 to a cell with goofs with serious behavior problems.
I found the guards there to be as fair as one could expect, and with the types of personalities in some cases that you would expect a person to develop in such a work environment.I was there so often that I could actually say that I am recognised and have been done good turns by some "white shirts" and regular C.O.s.
It is a shit place, but that is mostly because almost everyone that gets arrested is fucked. Most of them need mental health assistance or are so far gone they are irredeemable. It could be made better for the innocent people that are caught up by not letting the truly sick and dangerous have access to the not truly sick and dangerous. Without forcing the stigma of PC on the less obviouly guilty and dangerous. I mean, even the guards should understand how many men are thrown in jail because of women with problems other than the fake charges they cause on men they want out of the way. I hope that those charges are becoming less frequent by the way. I've met a lot of guys in there who did either nothing, or nothing to justify being locked up.
One other thing. Why are so many guards not heterosexual? Way out of proportion with the general GTA population. And all that time, I never heard of a sexual assault inside, or sex of any kind. The inmates there wouldn't tolerate that.

It has been almost a year since my first time at the "west." I have since been back one more time. For some reason i wasn't that scared going in, i guess i kind of figured i would end up at a place like this sometime.
They bring you in through the garbage doors and it smells like hell, i am sure they do it on purpose. They make you wait in a holding area before they process you and then put you in a cell. If you are lucky they will give you something that resembles food while they process you.
To be honest most of the p os were not that bad to deal with, but some of them were just plain jerks with real attitutdes, the kind of guys you would love to see outside so you could remind them of a few things.
Ts for the guys inside most of them are jerks. Why else would we be there? When you first go in you get tested and some guys are tough because they have their boys with them. Mostly a bunch of punks with attitudes who really deserve to be in jail.
You quickly learn jail etiquette, no urinating in the bowl, no taking a dump at nite, don't snore...sleeping is the worst. When you wake up you look forward to the crappy ride back to court and the bad cheese sandwich.
This just goes on and on...
