how can someone do there own time when they have to sit there and worrie about themself and watching behind there backs all the time wondering what is going to happen to them if that place is suppose to be safe for people then i think they need to get better guards in that place that is able to control things a little better then what they have been this is the second time with in a year first time new years eve and now what is going to be next the next thing you know maybe not this time but next time someone is going to land up being killed in that place but that is a good place i think it should be shut down since they cant do there jobs right

Inmates are abused and their families are subjected infinate distress and suffering all in the name of corrections. There is no rehabilitation and the warden doesnt have a clue or doesnt care how his staff covers up issues. Shame on the Canadian Government.............how do you people sleep at night!!!!

This is with regards to Stony Mountain. I heard that this place is like hell..And Im worried about our love ones that are inmate in that facility. It doesnt mean that since they are offenders government wont give them security on that place...Hello...they are human beings too. :(

i just got out of rockwood not more than a month ago. i was there for nine months but before that i was in stony for two years. i have to agree with what scooby said about time being dangerous if you make it. i seen a leader of MBF get stabbed over 20 times for playing his role. but if you keep to yourself, don't rack up any debts, don't rubber neck people cells or conversations, then time should be easy for you. confrontation with someone is almost inevitable but it's up to you on how far you want to take it. as for the gang situatuion, almost every crew there is segregated. stony used to be a solid joint but not so much anymore. i mean there is some solid guys there, but there is also alot of shitty guys too.

It's actually funny now that visits are mixed and some of the rough and big HA bikers have some pretty hot chicks visiting. But what's funny is some of my friends that are still there have seen and heard that these guys screw each other too!

I did time there before. It's hard to do your own time because there is no such thing as your own time there. Even if something doesn't concern you it will end up being your problem one way or another. FPS# 970155D i arrived at stony mountain intsatution in april of 2009 just after the lock down and restructering of the jail after a riot between zig zag crew and manitoba warriors i was doing a 26 six month sentence for trafficking and robbery and was nervous of stories that i had heard from people that had done time there before i arrived. it was nearly impossible to live there if you were not a gang member. you would be asked if you wanted to join a gang if you turned them down you would have to fight when i arrived all gangs were segregated.
once in the general population i was asked to join deuce but declined soon after any members were patched over to the bloods.
People say stony mountain is a dangerous place to do time but the only way its dangerous if you make it you do not associate with people you do not know cause most of the population is sex offenders, rats and check-ins that could not survive when the gangs ran the jail do your own time and its easy time.

I spent 5 years being shipped around canada from hole to hole SHU to SHU and my original sentence was only 30 months. I just kept fucking up, getting high, and fighting until I eventually stabbed another inmate in the throat for having his radio too loud. Crazy or what? I totally lost it for about 3 years and didn't care about nothing. I'm now 49 years old and have been out for about 30 years. There was very few gangs back then, no forced sex, and it was a skin beef to pull that shit back then and you near got killed if you tried. There were faggots and drag queens but nothing like what I hear about these days. I probably wouldn't live long in today's prison system, either.

My son went to Stoney Mountain. Prior to this i was a liason officer for John Howard Society so when he screwed up I started talking to inmates in my group I facilitated.
I was so scared of my son being hurt. Some lifer's and muscle did honour my request and watched my boy. Something the system is supposed to do. My calls from my son became more and more distant as time went on. His voice changed. This was his first bit ever and he was lucky he was given only 3 years for what he did.
Finally, one call, he asked me to tell my friends to back off cause that just causes more attention on him. I didn't listen. He was put in pc cause the hep-c treatments were making him crazy. Here's my point: we need to on the outside protect our boys in there. With the conservative govt though it won't happen. The only party that has shown human rights/dignity at all is liberals. That's a start. We need to dust off the cobwebs on some power lawyers and start law-suits on the institutions. Sue the guards for not doing their jobs - make them accountable and the system.
Also, in the institution these guys go in for violent crimes and then are allowed to work out, and while pumped up they look for a victim. Is this an inside joke of the warden to watch them like rats in a cage? Take that away and put school books out. Teach skills, not micky-mouse real trades so the recidivism rates decrease. If you believe what i say contact your ombudsman, write to minister of justice, make a move, and talk to other mothers.

My boyfriend of 6 years is in Stony right now. He says it isnt to bad, but I know he just lies to me so I do not panic. I hate that when shit happens in the jail, they do not inform anyone on the outside. They are on lockdown right now because a man was beaten pretty badly in his cell, of course being worried I called there to see how my boyfriend is and they will not tell me anything. For all I know he could be the one that was beaten.I understand they are inmates but they have family and friends on the outside that love n miss them, and we deserve peace of mind. We deserve to be informed of how our loved one is, especially when something like this happens. Screw their investigation and let me know my loves safe.

Stoney is the worst place I`ve EVER been in-bar none. There is so much rage & tension in the air, you can cut it with a shank. I got my ass kicked by three dudes, just for looking at them with a frown on my face.
The food has hair in it, and I`ve seen toe nails on supper plates. The CO`S will mostly leave you alone, but they`re quick to let you know they don`t care if you live or die.
I was in for 3-5 for robbery, but with all the ass-kicking that goes on, I spent 11 yrs inside and really thought I'd die in there. As soon as my supervision was done, I got the hell out of there.
