i have worked in there off and on for 5 yrs as contractor. those guys in there seem to have a lot of freedom in my view ive worked all over in there and worked with some inmates. some are really good guys to talk to and listen to some stories, others are a bunch of creepy diddling bunch of fucking idiots. they get their food daily i see alot of them waiting in lines to get there grub and guards are all over the place. its very old when you get into the tunnels they say they use to whip inmates down in there there was lines on walls marking years or days or weeks not sure but it looked horrible down in there thats where they should all be. there are some guys who mow the lawn do all yard work unsupervised right across the road from houses. just seems odd to me. ive worked in b unit where they are housed and worked while they all walk around and play dice and watch tv some stay in there rooms with lil windows with curtains rigged up to a string so they can open the curtain and watch whats going on. its old so wouldnt surprise me if there was ghost in there its pretty creepy in the tunnels and old areas which dont get used. while working there we have commissioners with us as guardsto protect us, around these diddlers and killers and people you dont wanna be around the commissioners are retired people who need more money so there 60 plus yrs old ive been with most of them and honestly there not gonna be able to do nothing to protect you if something did happen they carry radios and thats it no signal switch to warn anyone if something happens, the commissioners fall asleep while watching you do your job. its a joke really. but my opinion these guys should not be able to have as much freedom as they do there, the inmates call dorchestor pen a hotel california ive heard many say that.

Although I would certainly agree that the way our prisons are run isn't probably the most functional or fair way to manage inmates, you must also think...these people clearly did something bad to get in there in the first place! They can't give someone special treatment because they only committed fraud, vs an assault. the way there are differentiated is in the type of sentence they received.

All I can say is something has to be done with this prison.. It's bad when u don't go to eat for days at a time scared of being shanked or jumped and beat ... This makes me sick to my atomache to think that people are to get out and live a normal life in society after what has been going on and what they went through... First of all why are all inmates in together??? Lifers child moleaters and someone who did a fraud like really?? What the hell is wrong with our system and how is this rehabilitating them.. I am looking forward into going to the media about this as my husband is in there and having a very hard time something has to be done about the way the system is being run... There are some people who know they did wrong and just want to do their time and get out and start life over but wonder their whole time if they will come out alive!!!!! I need to start this process with the media!!!!!

Is telling the correctional investigator of any use?

Go to the media the more people who stand together on these issues the better

Hi how do we stand together when no one knows each other or have contacts for one an other. I also have a son in Dorchester on a drug conviction. It is sickening what goes on in these hell holes and the way things are fabricated against inmates. Is there any national organisation to advocate for prisoner rights in Canada or are they all in the US?

I did enough time there to say, some guards did their jobs, same with the parole officers. Some of the guards abused their power and took it an extent where the men would retaliate in a bad way. Why do a search and rip up an inmates family pictures? Why break a cd? Because

You don't have what the men on the inside

Do ? The correctional system need lots of improvements and sooner or later

It will happen. I miss all my buddies in there trying to do right but it's hard inside that negative surrounding . Something need to be done and done right

I did a few years there and there really isn't an emphasis on reform. The most they do is give you methadone. There's 1 program now for non-sexual offenders. However, if you want to get straight, keep your head right and you'll be alright. You've just got to be strong enough to keep your head up and above the bullshit placed on you by the guards, rats, mutts etc.

"Is it the prisoners who are the risk or is it the staff that create higher risks for everyone?? Is there abuse of staff and inmates by a group of staff....you bet and the Senior Executive Managers including the Commissioner of Corrections knows all about it. Why is there nothing done one may ask?? Maybe there are two reasons...a particular culture that reigns in terror or it is an embarassment to the Service overall. The last two statements are correct. Perhaps someone should ask the staff and inmates that work and live there....but in reality, unless there is no way you can be identified then you will not get any facts due to what may take place with respect to your personal safety....Be it inmate or employee..........The staff and inmates are under constant abuse. Either you are in or you are out. "

"if gaurds would only show a little respect to the inmates, and not be such hard asses, it would be better on the inside for both. I have spent over 20 years inside, and the gaurds only got worse. Im out now but my brothers are still there. just because Im out here does not mean I forgot about you guys in there. I know what you all go through every day, and I cant say I miss it. keep your heads up and eyes in the back of you brothers, miss you all."

Do you think there is an emphasis on reform or is it all just penalty and punishment? Thanks for posting, I wish more people would so I could get a better idea of what my child is going through in there.
