I had the misfortune of being held in this retched facility until I was transferred to the ORC. The C.O's in this dump are lame brained idiots. I was recieving the Tampa Tribune via subscription on a daily basis. One day a very short, Napolean complex riddled officer was working the day shift. I approached the podium he was located at, and asked for my newspaper. Apparently it had rained that morning, because the newspaper was in a plastic sleeve. He handed me my paper, then demanded I return it to him, so that he may dispose of the plastic sleeve. His reasoning was, I could suffocate myself or another inmate with it. I mean really, you know how small an individuals head would have to be to pull this off? I just laughed and walked back to my room with the sleeveless newspaper.
Upon my return, I related the humorous incident to my cellie, Joe, and we had a good laugh. Suddenly Joe says to me , "watch this". Joe approaches the officer, and requests a waste basket liner(made of plastic, and capable of holding water a.k.a air tight), without hesitation, this nitwit C.O. hands over the requested liner. Joe returned to the room, and we busted out laughing over this guys sheer stupidity. No problem giving an inmate a plastic waste basket liner, that could easily be used to place over a persons head and suffocate them, but no plastic newspaper sleeves allowed. The only other use we figured for the sleeve was a jailhouse condom. Anyway, I wound up getting drunk, and stoned in this place, not to mention had cigarettes nearly everyday.
